Massive Tracking v1.1. release, meet our team simpler OTAP and more!

| View in browser Welcome to our second ever  Wirepas technical newsletter!   Mom is back for her second season! So, it’s about time for the newsletter season too. We want to share with you our latest updates: OTAP has never been so simple and easy   Wirepas Massive v5.1, launched earlier this year, comes with a significant evolution of our already very efficient Over The Air Programming feature. OTAP is a crucial feature for any successful IoT deployment at scale. Antti wrote an excellent blog to explain what the OTAPv2 is about and how easy it is to use with our new MQTT Library.   — Read Antti's blog post Launch of Community forum   Developer experience is at the heart of our customer journey. We are super excited to announce the launch of the Wirepas Community forum today!    The platform is the last pillar of our Wirepas developer portal, launched one year ago. It will allow more open and simple communication within the developer community. It will also allow us to inform you about updates better.   — Read more You are the best person to tell us what you think   Mom has taught us never to settle for anything mediocre. So, we don’t. Your feedback is essential for us so we can constantly improve our products and developer experience. Our 2021 survey is now open for your feedback. We would appreciate it if you could spend a few minutes answering our survey.   — To the survey   Wirepas Massive Tracking v1.1 release   Following the launch of the Wirepas Massive Tracking initiative, we are very proud to announce that Wirepas Massive v1.1 has been released! In this release, the positioning application supports location collection using Directed Advertiser mode. The release comes with a new Wirepas Backend based on WNT v4.1, compatible with WNT v4.0. The support of Directed Advertiser allows tracking a huge number of tags in the same area (for inventory and tracking purposes in the presence of Low Latency routers) and significantly reduces the tag power consumption. We recommend all our customers upgrade to Wirepas Massive Tracking v1.1.   — Read more about the new feature and changes from our release note   Meet our Team: Who do you call when a node goes rogue?   When someone asks you, “what do you do for work?” you probably have an answer ready. However, for some people, the answer is what the company does, rather than what they do themselves. It’s easier that way. We’ve got these people! And we are proud of them all.   Jari Ruohonen, our Principal System Engineer, is one of the geniuses behind the product, whose work is so complicated that it’s easier not to tell. We get it. We also know what he does is very valuable to Wirepas, even when it’s not visible or easily described.   Just like Wirepas, Jari is a Tampere University of Technology alumni. He has been working in the cellular industry before joining Wirepas. If he had continued that path, our software would not be very very good. It would be called “ok IoT”. The mesh would not be as reliable or fast as it is now. The nodes would use a lot more power too. His job is to make sure the software works as intended. Sometimes, a node may go rogue. Jari has developed a tool to diagnose why a node is malfunctioning. With the data collected by the tool, he can locate problems so that they can be fixed. In software development, you’re not ever ready. When developing new, something already working always breaks. That’s how it goes. So, there are always new bugs to hunt and fix.   De-bugging similar things daily may get repetitive, but what excites Jari is the scale of small things: When there’s a bug in the software, if it’s in one node, it’s in every node. But it goes both ways. If something is done well, it’s in the whole network, not just one device. So, a little truly goes a long way.   Jari’s job is more diverse and profound than our “tl;dr” simplification of his job. But if we told more, you would know too much.
